Our Mission
How we began
The UAC began as a program arm of the non-profit Planting Seeds of Hope. PSH created community gardens to help clean up and restore vacant lots and remove blight. From there it organized several community partners to start thinking about food distribution and educational enrichment programs having to do with growing your own food. But the UAC was developed with a more specific focus on markets and food distribution from grower to consumer.
We offer three services to our community
1 - We help gardens and farms improve their projects and coordinate their sales through us. 2 - We hold farmer’s markets in neighborhoods lacking food access (that also include educational enrichment like food demos and nutritionists). 3 - We train and recruit students and young adults to become part of the local food system.
