Youth Workforce & Career Pathways
Developing the Next Generation of Food‑System Leaders
UAC prepares Newark youth and emerging professionals for real roles in the food system. Youth support daily operations at Harvest, helping move fresh, local food from New Jersey farms into community settings.
How Youth Build Skills
CTE apprenticeships — high school juniors and seniors rotate through logistics, packing, culinary production, and market operations
Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) roles — paid summer positions through Newark’s SYEP
College‑age internships — defined projects that expand technical experience and food‑system understanding
A Pathway Into Food‑Systems Careers
These experiences prepare young people for jobs, apprenticeships, post‑secondary opportunities, and entrepreneurial pathways. Some continue working with UAC; others move into agriculture, food safety, community health, environmental sustainability, or entrepreneurship.
